Did you know that StatsCounter has more backlinks than Google? StatsCounter is awesome; I love StatsCounter!
Anyway, I was looking at my blog stats, and out of the last 150 visitors who arrived at my site through keyword search, 16 were looking for some variation of "eBay's core competencies". Were they students working on the same class project? That was my first guess. Bu no - their IP addresses were scattered across the globe: Italy, Greece, France, Thailand, Australia, and both coasts of North America.
Has there been a prominent recent article on eBay's core competencies? I did a search myself, and my site was #10. Most other sites within the top 30 were from 2005 or earlier. So I'm at a loss; what prompted these people to look into eBay's business model? They can't possible have done so simultaneously of their own accord?
The second most popular search term was "Amazon vs Rackspace", from just 5 unique IPs. There are no other notable trends. Weird.
So if you got here via an "eBay's core competencies" search, could you please leave a comment and let me know what this is about? Thanks!!
Hi Isabel. Your site ranks seventh in Google for the search "ebay core competencies." Blame this post:
Blurry Lines Between Core Competencies

Let's see if this new article moves ahead of the earlier post for this term. It should, since you have the term in the title and headline. Or is this just an SEO test? :)

Hi Rich, I think the search ranking for that post shows that Google's algorithm is pretty imperfect. A few weeks ago, I read that Powerset's upcoming "natural language search" will be able to distinguish between "core competency + ebay" and "ebay's core competency". That would be cool. (Powerset uses Amazon's EC2, BTW.) Anyway, was more interested in finding out what drove the search traffic than SEO. It's not as if I have the answer :)

Don't you think this can be a hit or miss? But, when it works, you can come away with real results.

I'm creating a business plan for eBay.
The company, not an e-business.
It's for an MBA project.
I also like bunnies and strawberry icecream, so you know I'm a just normal person looking for something to copy paste :D

I am doing a class project involving core competencies. I have no affiliation with anyone else though.
