Last Thursday I got a Mac demo during lunch with David Young. He said everyone at Joyent is on Macs. Yesterday I spotted David Schairer from Concentric with his Mac. (I thought I've been in the web hosting industry for a while, but he has me beat by three and a half years. And his Sun-powered hosting cluster is bigger than DataReturn's 200-core Infinistructure) Kevin Rose from Digg had a Mac up on the podium. Will Charnock from The Planet said his last computer was a Mac. Dan Golding from Tier 1 Research said he wishes he had a Mac. Me too! One of these days, I want to be cool like Sophy and Patrick.
In other news, I'm having fun pretending to be a journalist. I covered Tier 1's Hosting Transformation Summit for The Web Hosting Industry Review, and as a result paid much closer attention to the sessions than I otherwise would have. Still, my attention span wore thin by the second afternoon. I haven't been a huge podcast fan, but if there were recordings for the CDN and media/content panels, I would definitely download them for my upcoming red-eye flight back to the East Coast. As it is, all I can remember is Dan Golding YouTube favorite: the Muppet Matrix.
Speaking of entertainment for long plane rides, Zune reportedly plays video as well as audio files - and Microsoft just started beta-ing the supposedly YouTube-like SoapBox. It all makes sense now. You could wirelessly download all kinds of silly clips (assuming Microsoft is successful in getting users to populate SoapBox) to a small-ish device. Nice!
What, you dont have a MAC ?? :)
I switched to Mac's back in 2004, I was fedup with fighting the machine, either in Linux or Windows.
I now hve a MacBook Pro .. cant say enought good things about it, except it allows me to get on with work, instead of worrying about my last crash.

Well the zune is crap, but I'd say go with a Mac--not because it's "cool" to have a Mac, but because it saves you tons of times over trouble shooting, wasting money on software to "protect" your PC, and reformatting.
All these things get so annoying.
Go with Macbook Pro like the fellow up there said.

I say go with a mac both because they are cool, and quite functional.
I had a powerbok in 06 for a while. It was an amazing experience. It just worked. The macbook pro line is a familiar and powerful upgrade from the previous line of laptops delivered by Apple. These are a perfect mix of form and function. If you get one, it'll be your favorite device, trumping your "Crackberry" by more than a mile. You'll find yourself loving the user experience. I'll be getting the macbook pro soon.
If I were you, I'd wait until they released the macbook pro with Leopard. Also, get the 17" with the upgrade screen resolution. Alternatively, if you're wanting the "flight friendly" version, perhaps you should go with the 15" screen. Its screen resolution is @ 1440x900, which is really good for a 15". This might be your best bet since you're always plane-bound. Let me know when you get it, and let us know how it has changed your life. I'm sure you'll have unique things to say about it.

I ended up getting a 12 inch Dell; it's about 2 pounds lighter than the 15 inch Mac, which makes a huge difference if you have to lug it around. I was also wary of the mixed reviews on Mac reliability and Apple support. Still, if they come out with a smaller laptop, I might consider it for my next machine.
